Mysterious Box quest for Izanagi’s Burden in Destiny 2: Black Armory guide

We’ll teach you how to get one of the game’s best exotic sniper guns.

In Destiny 2: Black Armory, players have been looking for keys to unlock the Mysterious Box for the past week. The Izanagi’s Burden, a sniper rifle, is obtained by completing the task in the box. The only true challenge is completing the goal. There are a few obstacles in the path of you and your snazzy new sniper. That’s where we can help.

Heads-up: Complete the objective and then keep it if you earn a rare bounty from Ada-1 — they drop from her usual, daily bounties and reward great gear. You’ll need to turn one in for a quest step, so having one saved up will come in handy.

SEARCHING FOR THE MYSTERIOUS BOX

Finding the Mysterious Box, the quest item into which you’ll stuff all your keys, is the easiest part of this quest.

Walk into the arena after starting Black Armory and gaining access to the Volundr forge, jump over the bridge, and instantly do a 180. To get to a small cave close to the ravine, follow the way down the rocks. When you walk in, you’ll notice a little Black Armory box. Receive the Mysterious Box, open it.

GETTING YOUR HANDS ON THE FIRST THREE KEYS

You did an excellent job! You discovered the box. If you’re going it alone, this is when things get a little more difficult. The Mysterious Box requires the insertion of four keys. The first three keys can be found in the first three forges. We’ll reserve the fourth and final key for its own section because it’s a little more complicated.

KEY LOCATIONS IN VOLUNDR

Since you’re already here, jump into Wolverine Forge.

Complete the first wave normally, then prepare to spring into action with a long-range weapon such as a sniper or scout. Two shield drones will spawn on either side of the arena between waves.

The first drone is on the left side of the island, facing the forge, floating about on the far left tree.

The second can be found floating around on the ceiling near some stalactites in the cave area to the right of the forge.

You should get a Maximum Temper bonus on the left hand side of the screen once you’ve killed both drones. Finish the rest of the forge as usual. When you slay the boss, you’ll discover a Black Armory box beside the forge has dropped. To get your first key, open it.

To put the key in the lock on your Mysterious Box, interact with it in your inventory.

KEY GOFANNON

This key is probably the most straightforward to obtain on your own. Set up your weapons the same way you did in Volundr. Stand around the crashed spacecraft in the extreme rear of the stadium between the first and second waves.

In the skeleton of the ship, one shield drone will be floating around.

If you’re looking at the ship, the second is to your left, floating around a pillar sticking out of the ground.

Collect your key from the box after earning the Maximum Temper bonus, same like the last time.

IZANAMI KEY

You’ll definitely need a sniper rifle to obtain this key on your own. Position yourself on the island on the right after the first wave, as you look back at the forge’s entrance.

One of the drones is on the island where you are standing. If you look toward the forge, you’ll notice a little pillar with the drone floating around it.

Drone two has crossed the wide pit and is hovering near the cave entrance to the arena, around a darker pillar farther away from the edge.

Finish the forge while using Maximum Temper to get the third key.

THE PROCESS OF CREATING THE FOURTH KEY

Ada-1 is offering the key mould for the fourth and final key now that the Bergusia forge is open. You’ll have to put this together over the course of a long and sometimes irritating quest line. The return, though, is definitely worth the effort.

GET BACK TO LEVIATHAN

Your first mission will be to murder Watchers in the Leviathan’s underbelly. You’ll be able to complete this phase quite simply even if you’re not a raider or play solo. If you can, equip an exotic that accelerates you — Dunemarchers or Transversive steps work well here, but Mida Multi-tool also works — since it will make the following phase much easier.

Ignore the Cabal on the bridge and spawn in the Leviathan. You’ll find a little room with six levers if you descend to a secret level before where they’re standing.

From left to right, quickly pull the levers in the following order: 1 – 5 – 3 – 2 – 4 – 6. It’s simple to accomplish as a group, but it’s also doable on your own. If you did everything correctly, you should receive a notification that reads “the way is open.”

Continue climbing the ramps until you reach the most open section. When you walk forward, you’ll see a pool of death-water with a pipe protruding out of it (don’t fall in if you can help it; it’s named death-water for a reason). Continue along the road, jumping over the

pipes until you reach a large fan. Ride the waves up the shaft by pulling the lever in the room on your left.

You’ll be given the following options: You can either move forward or turn left. Make a left turn and walk down the corridor until you reach the Engine door. You can farm this in any room, but Engine is the quickest to clear and get through in our experience.

Kill as many Watchers as you can before they get immune by opening the door. You’ll need to clear the Cabal and then the rest of the Watchers once their shields have been raised.

Now that you have four lenses for the four Watchers you murdered, exit through the same door you entered by, close it behind you, and repeat the process. You’ll be assigned a new job once you’ve collected 24 lenses from the Watchers.

STRIKES AND PUBLIC EVENTS

You must now gather Glimmering Amethyst for Ada-1. This item is found in a variety of places throughout the game, including Strike chests, Public Events, and random chests found throughout the globe.

We cycled through a few public events in the EDZ – a fairly simple cycle begins every few minutes. Running through the Lake of Shadows strike via the director, on the other hand, is significantly faster. To achieve this step of the quest, you must complete 20 Public Events or 10 strikes.

TEMPER OF BERGUSIA

Now you must manage a Bergusia foundry and eliminate shield drones. Even if you’re on your own, you’ll have no trouble finding. As is customary, they spawn between the first and second rounds.

The first drone is on top of a pillar to the left of the forge, detached from anything, if you’re looking from the entrance.

The second drone is floating next to a red pipe and a Black Armory box on the right side of the forge from the entrance.

Finish Bergusia and take your key from the box as usual now that the forge has Maximum Temper.

COMPLETING AN EXTREMELY RARE BOUNTY

Return to Ada-1 in the Tower with all four keys in your Mysterious Box. She’ll request that you obtain an Obsidian Crystal. Remember how we warned you about the rare bounty earlier? Hopefully, you’ve got one with you.

To get the Obsidian Crystal, turn in Ada-1’s unusual bounty.

If you haven’t received a rare bounty yet, complete all of Ada-1’s regular bounties every day until you do.

SHATTERED THRONE

For the most part, this is the first phase that will necessitate a coordinated team.

You must enter the Shattered Throne and battle the last boss, Dul Incaru. If you need assistance, we already have a Shattered Throne tutorial for you.

Remember that this dungeon is only open once every three weeks, when the Dreaming City curse is at its peak. If it’s Shattered Throne week, you’ll want to work as hard as you can on this quest to avoid being shut out for nearly another month.

COMPLETE THE PYRAMID QUEST

You’ll need to do a harder version of the Pyramidion after you finish Shattered Throne. This task is difficult for the faint of heart, even at 650, therefore we recommend forming a crew rather than going it alone. You will be returned to orbit if your Fireteam wipes. Keep an eye out there.

It’s also worth noting that you must initiate this via a quest to Io rather than the Strike node itself. You won’t gain any points toward the mission if you merely do the usual Pyramidion strike. Prepare to have your items locked if you go to the quest node on Io. Remember that Solar Singe and Heavyweight are also on, so Sleeper Simulant is your best buddy.

FINISH THE SIVIKS ONCE AND FOR ALL.

The ultimate part in the journey is to kill Siviks. Travel to the EDZ and start the mission from the patrol’s quest marker. Here, all you have to do is kill Siviks. If you have Whisper of the Worm or something similar, this will be quite simple. Simply wait at the top of the door, near the landing’s entrance, and shoot the boss until he’s dead.

Return to Ada-1 once the job is completed to get your snazzy new sniper gun.
